Sacraments

The following sacraments are offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Anointing of
the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick powerfully demonstrates Jesus’ presence among us as our Healer and Comforter. It is by the anointing and the prayers of the Church that all those who are ill, face surgery or any disability come into contact with Jesus, the Divine Physician. Because of the special nature of the Sacrament, it may be received as often as needed.

If you need to receive this Sacrament for any of the reasons above, or if you are going in to the hospital, please feel free to ask one of the priests after a Sunday or weekday Mass, or call the parish office.

Please call the parish office, 704-549-1607, at any time in the case of an emergency.

Baptism

Baptisms take place on most Sundays at 2:00pm in the church. Please note: To have your child baptized, you must be a registered, participating parishioner for at least two months.  (Exceptions require the Pastor’s approval.)

The Baptism Preparation Class is held once per month.  Baptisms are scheduled once all requirements are fulfilled and the necessary documentation is received in the Parish Office.

For more information, contact:  Marie Aymar, Parish Secretary.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is now normally celebrated during a child’s ninth grade year. Candidates for this Sacrament should have been enrolled in the Faith Formation program beginning with the Confirmation I class. Candidates must complete all requirements (i.e., service hours, letter to the Bishop, etc.) prior to the reception of the Sacrament.

Sponsors for each candidate must be a practicing Catholic who is at least 16 years of age and who has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If married, the sponsor must be in a valid Catholic marriage.

Parents must be registered members of St. Thomas Aquinas and have completed all the paperwork required by the Faith Formation department for participation in this Sacrament.

For more information contact:  Michelle Hollis, Director of Religious Education.

First Eucharist

The Sacrament of First Eucharist is normally celebrated during a child’s second grade year. Candidates for this Sacrament should have been enrolled in the Faith Formation program beginning in first grade.

Parents must be registered members of St. Thomas Aquinas and have completed all paperwork required of the Faith Formation department.

For more information contact:  Michelle Hollis, Director of Religious Education.

 Marriage

All couples wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage at St. Thomas Aquinas must contact the church office at least six months prior to the anticipated wedding date and meet the following criteria:

  • A least one individual must be a Catholic with no canonical impediments to marriage and a registered member of St. Thomas Aquinas.
  • For couples wishing to be married at St. Thomas Aquinas, dates and times for weddings will not be given without meeting with the priest or deacon first.
  • All couples preparing for marriage will be required to meet with the priest or deacon on several occasions.
  • Each couple will be required to participate in either the Diocesan provided one day Marriage Preparation workshop or Engaged Encounter weekend.

There is also certain paperwork to be completed. For Catholic(s), a Baptismal Certificate issued within six months of the wedding date must be provided.  Those who are Baptized Non-Catholics will need to provide evidence of their baptism in the form of a Baptismal Certificate or other such document provided at the time of their baptism.

Marriages are normally celebrated on Saturdays. Wedding times at St. Thomas Aquinas are 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Wedding rehearsals are held on Friday evenings.

All couples are required to work with the parish's Wedding Director, Chris Goodman.

For more information contact: Deacon Mark Nash.
