Ministry : Newcomers
Thank you for checking out the Newcomer Ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Our ministry’s motto – Serving God by Serving Others – is the reason we do what we do. We believe that fellowship with and service to one another are essential to becoming actively involved in the parish community. Although our ministry’s primary purpose is to welcome Newcomers to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, we believe it is much more important to welcome them into our parish family.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Newcomer Ministry welcomes those who have been guided by God’s grace to become registered members of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Our primary purpose is to make our newcomer parishioners feel an immediate connection with our parish community so they will fully participate in church activities and all sacramental offerings. Our ultimate goal is to create an experience that is both spiritual and familial, leading them to further serve God and others.

Q. Can anyone volunteer for the Newcomer Ministry?
A. Any registered parishioner can volunteer time to help serve in the Ministry.
Q. What does a volunteer do for the Ministry?
A. Most of the work done by our Ministry is done on the day of the Newcomer Luncheon. We need help with set-up and clean-up. Maybe about a week or so before the luncheon, volunteers are needed to help with assembling welcome bags (which are handed out after the Newcomer Luncheon). We are also looking for volunteers who are interested in becoming parish-sponsors.
Q. What is parish-sponsor? What do they do?
A. Parish-sponsors are individuals or families who are interested in “sponsoring” a newly registered parishioner. You would be an instant connection to the parish – sharing your experiences and making the newcomers feel welcome. For more information, please contact Lena Williams at newcomers@stacharlotte.com.
Q. Does the Newcomer Ministry plan any parish activities?
A. Yes, every quarter, the Ministry plans the Newcomer Luncheon hosted by Fr. Remo and the parish. Invitations are sent to newly registered parishioners asking them to join us in Aquinas Hall following the 11:30am Mass that Sunday. We also invite various ministry coordinators and organization representatives from our parish to join us.
